Our Business is ‘Picking Up!’
On a gray, not-so-warm morning this past Saturday, our club kicked off the first of three scheduled road cleanup events for the year.
A Humorous Start
After signing the log-in sheet, volunteers enjoyed a moralistic—and very humorous—story from Greg Greene. He spoke about biodegrading materials and why litter pickup matters more than most people realize. This inspiring talk set the tone for the day!
The Cleanup Crew
With that motivation, eight volunteers set out on foot from the parking lot of Sam’s Restaurant. They were armed with bags, grabbers, and, in true Bill-style, a camping harpoon.
The team covered Five Mile Road from Farmington to Merriman and back, collecting and bagging litter along the way. It was a sight to see!
Special Thanks
A big shoutout to Livonia Noon Rotarian Ian Smart and Volunteer-Corp members Kayleigh Reed and Justin Gooch. They joined club members Tammy Bonifield, Tom Martin, David Stechholz, Bill Friske, and Sharon Pommerville in this hands-on service effort.
This event is another great example of Rotary partnerships, community spirit, and a little humor making the work lighter.
Breakfast Together
When we finished, most of the team headed into Sam’s Place for a well-deserved breakfast. There’s nothing like sharing a meal after a hard day’s work!
Why Litter Pickup Matters
Litter pickup is more than just cleaning up our streets. It’s about taking pride in our community. When we pick up trash, we show that we care about our environment. It encourages others to do the same.
The Impact of Community Service
Community service has a ripple effect. When we volunteer, we inspire others to join in. It creates a culture of giving and support. This is especially important in our area, where community-minded individuals can make a real difference.
Join Us!
If you’re interested in making a positive impact, consider joining us for our next cleanup event. Together, we can amplify our efforts and create a cleaner, more beautiful community.
Conclusion
In conclusion, our road cleanup event was a success! We had fun, shared laughs, and made a difference. I look forward to seeing more familiar faces at our future events. Let’s keep the momentum going!
