Meeting started with President Erin Dobbins leading the club members in saying the Pledge of Allegiance. The Invocation was then given by Pastor Dave Stechholz. There were 15 members at the meeting, 1 on Zoom, and 3 special guests.
One of the special Guests was Natalie from the Churchill HS Interact Club. She gave an update on how Touch A Truck is moving forward with more vehicles this year.
Happy Bucks was happily collected by Sharon Pommerville. Peter Dale mentioned with his buck, his ongoing battle with a squirrel. Nancy Darga told us about a trip up north where she was on a luxurious sailboat and when she realized that it was going to be difficult for her to get out of the boat, how 3 strong men just picked her up and set her safely on dry land.
There was then a long discussion about our upcoming Open House which will be at our AM meeting on August 26. We were all encouraged to invite friends, coworkers, etc. and the discussion centered around the best way to verbally inform people about the event.
Our guest speaker today was Doug Kee, Board Member of Marion Medical Mission. They are an ecumenical, Christian, front-line, hands-on, volunteer, non-profit organization. Their main project has been bringing clean water to rural African villages.
Doug has been a member of the Mission for 17 years, and the mission itself has been around for over 40 years. The first year of its existence they built 14 wells, last year they built 4,000 and over its existence, 62,000 wells have been built. Typical wells serve 100 to 120 villagers but the mission also teaches them how to maintain the wells so they have clean water far into the future. All of the villages they have served are very isolated. It costs about $500.00 to build just 1 well. The countries they have been in are Mozambique, Tanzania, Malawi and Zambia.
There were many questions from members to Doug about the mission.
Before the meeting ended, we heard two Greg Greene jokes. All the members then recited the “Four-Way Test” before President Erin ending the meeting with the ringing of the bell.
