Churchill Interact Club received a thank you letter from Shelter Box for Interact’s donation of $5,500. It was brought up that perhaps Shelter Box could be a presenter at the Interact Club in September.
Today’s presentation was all about Mental Health. The Founder and therapist of the Blackbird Counseling Center, Diana Brda, MA,LLP, defined how Mental Health is based on an assessment of bio/psycho/social aspects of overall functioning. Diana demystified the myths surrounding mental health to decrease the stigma that still exists about mental health and seeking help. She outlined the difference between good mental health and mental health challenges.
Good factors are adaptability to change and setbacks, coping with stress, making decisions and solving problems effectively, enjoying life and having a sense of purpose. She also pointed out the risk factors that can lead to mental health challenges.
Diana outlined what to look for in people whose mental health may be declining and listed the protective factors that can contribute to good mental health. Part of the presentation included information presented by Wellness Coach Anthony Moses, who works alongside Diane and has his own wellness business. Anthony emphasised that diet, exercise, keeping the brain active and using Mindful techniques are all necessary to maintain a healthy mental attitude. The Blackbird Counseling Center accepts a variety of health insurances, treats individuals, children, adults, couples and families, and is located in Livonia.
