Club Assembly

Our club assembly opened with the Pledge of Allegiance and a meditative thought by Victoria Haltom. We had two visitors today: Kathleen Pierz from Shelter Box and volunteer corps member Mike DeMott, who is currently helping the club with weed‑pulling at Greenmead. We did not meet on Zoom today.

Happy Bucks were collected by Sharon Pommerville. They included gratitude that school has started and that the grandkids are back in school by Nancy Darga; a happy note that Tom Martin is feeling much better after four days in the hospital and a medication change; Bill Friske and Rose are headed up north to their family cottage; Mike said several cars had stopped and commended him on the good work at Greenmead when he was pulling weeds, and he said that he was with the Rotary Club; Erin Dobbins was happy that they had their first block party after many years of not having one.

Victoria reported that she has met with several prospective members after our open house. She is planning another open house in January.

Report on the meeting for Rotary Park that was held last week with the two clubs: the purpose of this meeting was to decide what to do with the money we had left over after building the pavilion was finished. This money has to be used on Rotary Park.

Suggestions included: a peace pole installation, landscaping, installation of grills and cement pads, lighting of the pavilion, splash guards in the bathrooms, and epoxy bathroom floors to make cleaning easier. These will be brought up to the city.

Spaghetti dinner discussion: Scheduled for October 28. Tammy Bonifield discussed placement ads and urged us to solicit businesses to put ads on our placemats. Tammy has all of the information on placemat sponsors. Make sure to take copies of this information with you to give to prospective sponsors. Everyone pays for dinner. Don’t forget to bring desserts.

“Deck the Rec” will be held inside the Rec Center this year. Victoria has the idea of using starfish for our theme. Three volunteers can help.

Our monthly social with the Noon Club at the Craft Grill is next week at Schoolcraft College's Vistatech Center, September 10, 5:00 to 6:30 PM. Plan on joining us.
