Club Assembly
Updated: 43 minutes ago
President Erin Dobbins brought the meeting to order with the ringing of the bell and the Pledge of Allegiance at 7:30 AM. A short Invocation was given by Nancy Darga. There were 17 Rotary members present. Sharon Pommerville happily collected Happy Bucks. Tammy Bonfield was happy to announce that the club received approval for two Exchange Students for the 2028–2029 school year — the whole club was happy about that. Almost everyone who gave a Happy Buck was excited that Marlene Katafias’ bookstore, Illumination Books Connection, had finally opened and how nice it was — almost as happy as Marlene herself.
Reverend Dave Stechholz then recapped last week’s meeting, which was held at Greenmead in the Quaker Meeting House. He also mentioned how nice the gardens at Greenmead looked, especially the one that AM Rotary volunteers had been tending all summer.
There was a short discussion about the Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser being held on October 28. Members were reminded to bring a dessert. A reminder was also given about the evening meeting of the Spaghetti Dinner committee.
The D6400 Foundation Dinner will be held on November 12 at Crystal Gardens and starts at 5:30 PM. Tickets are $65 each, and a table for eight is $600. It was voted that the club will get two tables. Members are to let Tammy know at the next meeting if they wish to attend.
Ron Gaffney, from the Livonia Noon Club, gave an update on the Rotary Pavilion and the new, wider cement surround that will be added to prevent water erosion, along with a larger grill that will be installed at the same time.
Bill Friske updated the group on the liquor license for Bingo, which will be held on November 5 at 5:30 PM. Pizza will be served, and the cost will be $20 per person.
The Livonia Chamber of Commerce will have a member appreciation dinner at Laurel Manor, and additional information will be provided.
Victoria Haltom mentioned that no one has joined yet from the Open House.
There are webinars available for anyone interested about Rotary at the District level.
There was a discussion about participating in a raffle with the Noon Rotary for the purchase of a new ATV Stretcher Unit. One thousand tickets at $50 each would be sold, and the winner of the raffle drawing would win a golf cart. AM Rotary would be co-branded with Noon Rotary if we choose to help sell tickets. A motion was made to assist in ticket sales, and the motion carried. Flyers will go out soon.
The meeting ended with the reciting of the Four-Way Test and the ringing of the bell at 8:48 AM.
