LAMR President Nancy Darga chaired the meeting, beginning with the Pledge of Allegiance and Meditative Thought by Greg Greene. 19 members and guests were in attendance, including 5 Zoomers, 3 guests from Breaking Barriers, and Ron & Deanna Gaffney from the Livonia Noon club.
Veronica Cruz and her two compatriots from Breaking Barriers for Kids and Families presented our Club with a nice “thank you” plaque for our legacy support. Sharon Pommerville then collected “Happy Bucks”.
Announcements: Victoria Haltom is back in the hospital with A-Fib, and Pat Zucal’s wife, Lori, is battling cancer. Please keep both in your prayers.
CLUB ASSEMBLY
The Club approved our participation in the December 7th Livonia “Merry and Bright” Christmas Parade, as requested by Park & Rec.
The Club also approved a plaque to honor Bill Joyner of Friday Musings for his support and publicity of our many activities and events. It will be presented at the Good Old Fashion Neighborhood Corn Roast, as recommended by Bob Carris, who has headed this up. The Corn Roast is Sunday, September 7th, beginning at 11:30 AM.
A new Club “Communication Team” (committee) has been established to oversee the LAMR Newsletter, website, videos, Facebook and Instagram, and this includes the four Rotarians who take the weekly “Notes.”
Tom Martin announced that the Rotary Japanese student, Tohma, is staying for a few days with his family. This Tuesday he will be presented with a soccer ball as a gift.
A letter campaign for the Rebuild Rotary Park project will be launched shortly, pending City Council approval of the accepted bid on the new Pavilion #1.
The next Touch-a-Truck meeting will be on Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. The event is on Saturday, August 23rd, with DG Linda Morrow wanting to make her monthly video message at the event.
Tigers Game – Rotarians can join Schoolcraft College for the bus trip to Comerica Park, a little dinner, and much fun, just like last year. The bus leaves and returning to Schoolcraft. It is on September 5th. Bill Friske will help any Rotarians and guests register.
Tammy Bonifield noted that the District Governor’s Golf Outing needs auction items. Contact Tammy if you wish to auction off your house, boat, car, spouse, or son.
The Kids Coalition Against Hunger (KCAH) meal-packing event at St. Edith’s is Saturday, October 11th. It was explained why that date cannot be changed at this time.
The Spaghetti Dinner Committee had its first meeting a week ago. The date of the World Polio Day Community Spaghetti Dinner is Wednesday, October 22nd, at Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church’s Gym. A brain-storming session was held after our Club meeting with Zoomer Wayne Kinney, who provided a wealth of guidance.
Our Guests were then dismissed, and the Club reviewed the well-done Financial Report and Budget, presented by Treasurer Tammy Bonifield. Questions and answers were entertained. Legacy charitable gift amounts can vary from year to year. We closed with the Rotary Four Way Test, but no Greg Greene jokes.
