Casting Smiles at the Special Needs Fishing Derby
Tom Martin and I had a blast last weekend at the annual Special Needs Fishing Derby hosted by the Woodhaven Brownstown Rotary Club.
The event took place at a scenic pond in Memorial Park in Flat Rock, and the weather couldn’t have been more perfect.
We were lucky enough to spend time with two amazing kids; one from the younger elementary group and one from the older high school group. As always, fishing poles and worms were provided, and let me tell you, the fish were very hungry! Tom and I might even have a solid claim to catching the biggest fish of the day!
We saw Rotarians from all over the district come together, including our District Governor Nick Krayacich, members of the host Woodhaven-Brownstown Rotary Club, President Therese Maggioncalda of the Passport Club, representatives from the Lincoln Park Rotary Club, and of course, our own Livonia AM Rotary Club.
This event is a shining example of Rotary collaboration at its best.
After a fun-filled morning of fishing, everyone made their way to nearby Thorn Park, where kids and adults enjoyed a fantastic playground and a delicious barbecue lunch hosted by the Woodhaven Firefighters and other generous Rotarians.
Events like this truly embody the spirit of service and community. A heartfelt thank you to Ed and Barb Smith for inviting our club year after year. We are honored to serve alongside you.
