Why Our Rotary Club Is Moving to GroupMe for Communication

Clear, reliable communication is essential for keeping our Rotary club connected, informed, and engaged. As our membership continues to grow, traditional text messaging has become increasingly difficult to manage. Most mobile carriers limit the number of phone numbers that can be added to a single group text, which means messages don’t always reach everyone. Members may be left out of updates, reminders, or last‑minute changes simply because the group text cannot support our full roster. 

To solve this, our club is transitioning to GroupMe, a free and easy‑to‑use group messaging app that ensures every member receives every message. GroupMe allows unlimited participants, organizes conversations cleanly, and keeps all Rotary communication in one place—no more scattered text threads or missed updates.


If you are not already using the GroupMe app, please follow the link below to sign up. Once signed up, the club will send you an invitation link to join our GroupMe channel. Please direct your questions to Bill Friske. 

How to Install GroupMe (Simple Step‑by‑Step)


For iPhone Users

  1. Open the App Store.

  2. Tap Search and type GroupMe.

  3. Select GroupMe from the results.

  4. Tap Get to download and install.

  5. Open the app and follow the prompts to create an account or sign in.

  6. Once installed, you will be added to our Rotary club’s GroupMe channel.

For Android Users

  1. Open the Google Play Store.

  2. Tap the search bar and type GroupMe.

  3. Select GroupMe from the results.

  4. Tap Install.

  5. Open the app and create an account or sign in.

  6. You will be added to our Rotary club’s GroupMe channel once setup is complete.


For Computer Users (Optional)

  1. Visit www.groupme.com.

  2. Click Sign Up or Log In.

  3. You can access all messages from your browser without installing anything.

What to Expect After Joining

  • All club announcements, reminders, and updates will be posted in GroupMe.

  • You can reply, ask questions, or share information with the group.

  • Notifications can be customized so you only receive alerts the way you prefer.

  • The app keeps all Rotary communication organized in one place.
