Club Meeting Featuring Patrick Brockway, Candidate for Livonia City Council

Meeting was led by President Nancy Darga. Members recited the Pledge of Allegiance followed by Victoria Haltom’s Invocation, and Sharon Pommerville conducting Happy Bucks.

Today’s speaker was Patrick Brockway who is running for Livonia City Council, and communicated with the group over Zoom.

Patrick has held various Federal government positions, one being in the Veterans Affairs Department. Patrick’s credentials include a criminal justice degree from Madonna University. Patrick hopes that winning a council seat will allow him to make effective changes to the city’s fiscal picture and allow community members to have a strong voice and be heard with their concerns for the future of Livonia.

Patrick believes his greatest strength is researching for solutions to problems that need solving.

He stated that, as an employee of the government, his actions and words are always being scrutinized and are under a microscope—all the more reason to be truthful. Patrick related Rotary’s Four-Way-Test to his views as a representative of the people.

Tammy asked Patrick to speak about his position on the crumbling infrastructure in Livonia. Patrick replied that citizens must define what is needed versus what is wanted.

After Patrick's presentation, the meeting looked at upcoming events.

The newly formed Stevenson Interact Club already has 27 female students and has elected officers.

Kids Against Hunger has pledges of $10,000.

The Rotary Park Project has been on hold because the city has refused all previous construction bids and is starting over with what they are willing to spend. The Rotary Clubs have taken the stance that what ever is going to be built, needs to be the same as what was previously there, and built to last for a long time. Rotary is concerned that the City is again looking at prefab structures. It was brought up that perhaps Rotary AM should give another $10,000 to the Rebuild Rotary Park Project. No vote was taken on that suggestion today.
