Club President Nancy Darga chaired the LAMR Meeting, beginning with the Pledge of Allegiance and Meditative Thought by Greg Greene, quoting Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.
14 members and 1 Zoom guest were in attendance to begin a happy new year of 2026. Sharon Pommerville then collected “Happy Bucks.” Bob Carris presented Dave Stechholz with a beautiful towel made by his wife, Teri, in thanks for the Christmas Party. (We love it!).
President Nancy gave a tribute to her late nephew, Walter Watkins, who died in Florida a few weeks ago. She shared his story: a malnourished 13-year-old from Dayton, OH, with a troubled family background. Walter was adopted by Nancy’s brother and wife after he said to them, “Do you think you can like me?” Walter became a cook and a successful person, “a kind of Rotarian. Walt brought everyone up who was around him.”
Tammy Bonifield presented a year-to-date Budget Report (approx. through December 31st, 2025). Hard copies of the FY 2025-2026 Budget were given out and discussed.
A brief up-date was given concerning our “Re-build Rotary Park,” with more information to follow in the next couple of weeks.
Greg Greene proposed, and the members present approved a “Members Memorial,” a digital memorial for our LAMR website, honoring deceased Club members and LAMR supporters, for their service.
Nancy reviewed some goals and activities for the second half of her Club presidency. This also included seeking to grow our LAMR membership here at the Livonia Senior Wellness Center.
There will be a joint event of the Livonia, Livonia AM, and Garden City Rotary clubs at “Bocci ball heaven,” the Italian-American Club on Five Mile Road, on Tuesday, January 27th.
We closed with the Rotary Four Way Test of the things that we, as Rotarians, think, say, and do, and a sort-of- Greg Greene joke about “black ice.” Wishing everybody a happy January!
