Club Assembly

Reverend Dave Stechholz opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance and directing members in the singing of the Rotary Song. Bob Carris gave the Invocation.


Happy Bucks was full of exuberant accolades given to the Westland Rotary Club for hosting a well-run Trivia Night. Members who attended expressed how much fun they had. 


Welcome New Member Tom Martin. Mike Ladwig welcomed Tom as a new 

member to the club following a short introduction. The members cheered and 

clapped. Tom was previously a Rotary member in the Livonia Noon Club, but now that he is retired, he wanted to return to Rotary. Mike asked Tom to make a future presentation of his experience hosting exchange students during his previous time in Rotary.


First Road Cleanup for 2025 is April 5th. Members will meet at 8:30 AM at the Nehasil Memorial Park, next to the Senior Center. The cleanup area is along Five Mile Road, from Farmington to Newburgh Road.


A Community Enhancement Award was given at the Livonia Chamber of 

Commerce Dinner, to Veronica Cruz of “Breaking Barriers for Children.” In which the “Clarenceville Cooler Project” was featured. However, the acknowledgments did not mention Livonia AM Rotary despite raising the funds for the project. This prompted a conversation about the club’s need to improve its public image. It

was decided to make our public image one of our goals.

  

The District 6400 Grant Seminars are being Zoomed on March 12th and 18th. A representative from the club must participate in one of the Zooms to qualify the club to apply for Rotary Foundation Grants. Nancy Darga stated she was registered for the seminar. 


District Awards submission deadline is April 15, 2025. Bill Friske gave a short 

presentation on how the recognitions are awarded the District Conference.


Reverend Dave encouraged the club members to volunteer to take home and answer one of the eight essay questions necessary to complete the award applications. The categories discussed were the Dick Hedke Award (Club Adminstration, Membership, Public Image, Club Projects, and The Rotary Foundation), the Hugh Archer Award (Individual Club and Collaboration) and the Jennifer Jones Champion of Inclusion Award. Writeups are restricted to 1500 words, and those members who offered to write sections are to send to Claude Kendrick by next Wednesday, the 12th.

  

Membership Committee recommended that the last meeting of the month be 

open to LAMR-Volunteer Corp members, family, and friends. Mike Ladwig reported that it was voted on to keep the membership fee the same and not reduce it for first-time members for the time being. 


Shelter Box will present on March 26th. Claude offered to contact Emily from the Churchill HS Interact Club to present an oversized check to the Shelter Box rep, from their 2024 Touch-A-Truck Event. 


The Livonia Spree is offering non-profit organizations the opportunity to set up canopies for $250. There was discussion 

about if it was worth renting a canopy. It was decided that it would take both clubs to man a canopy for the entire week. It was suggested that working the beer tent and keeping the tips would be better utilization of our volunteers.


Pat Zucal has scheduled a Social Outing at the One Under Bar on March 27, 2025, at 4:00-7:00 PM.

 

The 2025 Carnival is under contract and scheduled for May 19th-June 8th at the Sears location. Members expressed their gratitude that we still have the carnival.
